6101 Rear Transition Module (RTM) for Compute Intensive 3U VPX Prototyping Activities

The 6101 RTM Module for Test System Integration is a 3U VPX rear transition module that allows designers and engineers to test and validate designs before finalizing system architecture.

With a design meant for prototyping, the 6101 RTM offers versatility that enables access to different high-speed signals — facilitating early testing without needing a fully integrated system and reducing time-to-market. It allows users to access and prototype with 3U VPX cards before the system’s backplane is ready and exposes PCIe and high-speed serial signals through industry-standard interfaces like SFPs, QSFPs, SFFs and USB-C to simplify testing and development.

Unlike competing RTMs, the 6101 offers more backplane signal exposure and flexibility for configuring signal paths, support for high-speed debug ports (HSDP) and the ability to expose both bonded and unbonded signal interfaces.  The minimum viable system concept ensures a functional and easily testable setup — making it easy to stay confident knowing you’re working within a system you can trust.

The 6101 RTM supports data rates of up to 25 Gbps per lane through its SFP+ cages, PCIe gen4x8 through its SFF cages and up to 100 Gbps through its QSFP+ cages.

6101 Rear Transition Module for Compute Intensive 3U VPX Prototyping Activities Overview

The 6101 RTM Module for Test System Integration is a 3U VPX rear transition module that allows designers and engineers to test and validate designs before finalizing system architecture.  The 6101 RTM was expressly created to support development on New Wave Design V6061, V6062, V6063, V6065, and V6067 3U VPX modules.

Engineered for prototyping, the 6101 RTM simplifies early development and testing by exposing key high-speed backplane signals through industry-standard interfaces such as SFP, QSFP, SFF, and USB-C. This modular approach facilitates system validation without the need for a complete backplane, ensuring faster time-to-market and enabling users to prototype with 3U VPX cards confidently.

Offering unmatched signal exposure and configurability, the 6101 RTM allows users to route backplane connections flexibly, access debug paths, and isolate specific links for verification. Its unique design includes cross point and redrivers on selected high-speed serial lines, ensuring signal integrity during testing. Custom SDR and header connectors provide access to VPX backplane IPMC, MP01, MP02, and GPIO signals, while DIP switch settings enable easy configuration of NVMRO, SYSCON# and GA[4:0].

With support for data rates up to 25 Gbps per lane via SFP+ cages, PCIe Gen4x8 through SFF cages and up to 100 Gbps via QSFP+ cages, the 6101 RTM is purpose-built for high-performance development. Whether testing RTL designs or prototyping a full system, the 6101 RTM delivers the flexibility and functionality required for confident, efficient development.
